Endowed Accounts
The Louisiana 4-H Foundation has the following named funds, which are part of the endowment and help perpetuate specific 4-H programs:
W.C. Abbott Sr. Memorial – established in 1984 by his daughter, Edythe Abbott McLean, to honor the late state agent (4-H) who retired in 1950. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Howard W. Anderson Memorial – established in 1992 by friends and family to honor the memory of Dr. Howard W. Anderson. Dr. Anderson retired as assistant director of Cooperative Extension in 1980. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
ARCO Scholarship – established in 1992 by Atlantic Richfield Company through the efforts of Lodwrick Cook, CEO. Provides income to sponsor a 4-H scholarship.
Dr. Carl and Beulah Baldridge Memorial – established in 1996 with a $500,000 contribution from the estate of the Baldridges. Sponsors the Baldridge Memorial Scholarship, parish 4-H scholarships, Adult Leader Training and other programs.
Frank A. Barber Memorial – established in 1982 to honor the late, longtime supporter of the State Livestock Show and Sale. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Fund in Honor of Arthur J. Bergeron – established by the people of Assumption Parish in 1988 to honor Arthur Bergeron, who retired as their county agent in 1988. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Ona Blondin Memorial – established in 1992 to honor the late home economist from Lincoln Parish. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
D.L. Bornman Jr. and Lillian Bryan Bornman Memorial – established in 1990 to honor the memory of Louis and Lillian Bornman. Mr. Bornman was a retired district agent with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. He and Mrs. Bornman were longtime supporters of 4-H youth. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Mark H. Bonner Jr. Scholarship Fund – established in 1986 to honor the former chairman of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees and longtime supporter and sponsor of 4-H. He was executive vice president and general manager of the Association of Louisiana Electric Cooperatives Inc. Provides an annual 4-H Achievement Scholarship.
Morgan Wade Burns Memorial – established in 1986 by friends and family to honor the late 4-H’er from Lincoln Parish. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Ralph R. Brown Memorial – established in 1982 to honor the late district agent for the Cenla Area. Provides income for an annual scholarship to a 4-H leader to the Southern Region Leader Forum, Rock Eagle, Georgia.
Holbern “Bot” Burch Memorial – established in 1997 to honor the memory of Mr. Burch, a longtime supporter of 4-H. Provides income to sponsor a scholarship for a graduating Washington Parish 4-H’er.
H. Rouse Caffey Horticulture Award – established in 1994 to recognize the horticulture records winner with a trip to 4-H Congress.
Letitia S. Cazedessus Memorial – established in 1983 to honor the mother of Mrs. John A. Cox. She was an active supporter of youth at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Grafton W. Cooper Memorial – established in 1988 in memory of the late parish chairman and county agent of St. Helena Parish who retired in 1981. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Harvey Core Memorial – established in 1989 to honor the longtime 4-H leader and supporter of the sheep project from St. Tammany Parish. Mr. Core was also a dedicated member of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
R.J. Courtney Memorial – established in 1983 to honor the late state agent for programs with small farmers and coordinator of equal employment opportunity and civil rights. Provides income to sponsor two 4-H EENEP leaders at the Southern Region Leader Forum, Rock Eagle, Georgia.
Colonel Weldon W. Cox Memorial – established in 1981 to honor a former Extension agent and retired colonel with the U.S. Army. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Olen D. Curtis Memorial – established in 1995 to honor the memory of Dr. Olen Curtis. He was a retired agronomy specialist with Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Provides income to sponsor an educational award trip for the state-winning plant science team at 4-H University.
Larry de la Bretonne Jr. Memorial – established in 1991 to honor the associate specialist (aquaculture) with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Interest from the account is designated to sponsor a scholarship for a student studying aquaculture and to help sponsor awards for fisheries and wildlife programs.
Heather Daulton Memorial – established in 1991 to honor the late 4-H’er from Terrebonne Parish. She was a sophomore at Ellender Memorial High. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Woodrow A. Downs Memorial – established in 1985 to honor the late district agent of the North Central Area who retired in 1978. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
H. B. “Cotton” Fairchild Memorial – established in 1991 by family and friends to honor the late husband of Dr. Betty Hodgkins Fairchild, retired assistant director of the Extension Service. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Jack and Katie Faraldo Community Service Award – established in 1989 by Jack and Katie Faraldo. Provides income to support an educational trip to Florida for records winner in Community Study and Service Contest.
Bobby H. Fletcher Sr. Memorial – established in 1999 to honor the late district agent from District 1, formerly the Metro Area in Southeast Louisiana. Provides income to sponsor recognition of the champion Hampshire ewe and ram exhibitors at the Southeast District Livestock Show with a $100 savings bond each.
Bruce Flint Memorial – established in 1995 in memory of the 39-year career of Dr. Bruce Flint, who retired as vice chancellor of the LSU Agricultural Center April 30, 1995. Provides a college scholarship for a graduating 4-H senior.
Naomi and Lesley Flowers Livestock Judging Fund – established in 1983 by Naomi and Lesley Flowers. Provides income to support the Livestock Judging Award trip to the national contest.
Fund in Honor of Dr. Dan Fontenot – established in 1993 to honor Dr. Dan Fontenot on the occasion of his retirement as 4-H specialist after 37 years of service. Provides income for the Dan Fontenot 4-H Scholarship.
H.D. Bill Gaddis Sr. Memorial – established in 1987 to honor the late county agent from LaSalle Parish. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Fund in Honor of Dr. Edward “Eddie” W. Gassie – established in 1995 by his friends and colleagues to honor Dr. Gassie. Dr. Gassie retired from Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service as a specialist in Extension education after 36 years of service. Provides income to sponsor a state 4-H scholarship.
Bobby Earl Goodman Memorial – established in 1987 by the Gilbert Senior High School 4-H Club, Franklin Parish, to honor a member of the club. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
John R. Grand Memorial – established in 1989 to honor the longtime supporter and buyer of 4-H animals at the livestock shows and former board member of the Dixie Jubilee Horse Show. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Lucy Mae Hargis Memorial – established in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. Norvel E. Thames to honor the late Mrs. Hargis, an outstanding leader and 4-H supporter in Grant Parish. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Fund in Honor of Kellett Hathorn – established in 1988 to honor Kellett Hathorn, who retired as state 4-H specialist in 1988 after more than 37 years of service to the 4-H youth of Louisiana. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Irvin J. Heath Memorial – established in 1992 to honor the late county agent from East Baton Rouge Parish. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Capt. and Mrs. Moise Hymel Memorial – established in 1990 by their four sons, George, Dale, Lawrence and Wayne, and friends of St. James Parish. Captain Hymel was very supportive of the 4-H Club program, particularly the livestock program. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Clyde Ingram Memorial – established in 1979 to honor the late poultry specialist. Provides income to co-sponsor the poultry achievement award trip to the National 4-H Congress.
Charles B. James Memorial – established in 1991 by family and friends to honor the late county agent in Tensas Parish, where he served LCES for 42 years. Provides income to sponsor an award trip for the state winning plant science team at 4-H University.
Fund in Honor of Ruth Johnson – established in 1990 by family and friends to honor Ruth Johnson, a retired classroom teacher from Lincoln Parish who has more than 40 years of service as a teacher and 4-H supporter. Provides an annual scholarship.
Etha Duncan Jones Memorial – established in 1987 by Dr. David Jones and the late Judith Jones Buckley, M.D., to honor their mother. Provides income to send the state winner of the N.J.H.A. production and marketing demonstration contest to the annual educational trip.
Stella Jones Memorial – established in 1981 to honor the late 4-H and poultry specialist. Provides income to co-sponsor the poultry achievement award trip to the National 4-H Congress.
Carl E. Kemmerly Jr. Memorial – established in 1985 to honor the late associate director who retired in 1970 after 45 years of service in professional agriculture. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
C.W. Kennedy Memorial – established in 1979 to honor the late manager of the State Livestock Show at LSU. Provides income for an awards trip and plaque for the state winner of the animal science records contest.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen G. Killgore Memorial – originally established in 1985 to honor Mr. Killgore, the late state agent for agriculture who retired in 1972. In 1992 funds in memory of Beryl Killgore were added to this account. Provides income to support an awards trip for the state winning plant science team at 4-H University.
Fund in Honor of Bobby Kilpatrick – established in 1992 to honor Bobby Kilpatrick, who retired as dairy specialist in 1989 after 35 years of service. Provides income for the 4-H dairy awards program.
Fund in Honor of Mrs. J.H. Kilpatrick – established in 1987 to honor Mrs. Kilpatrick for more than 50 years of 4-H leadership and 32 years of leadership at 4-H camp, especially with 4-H’ers from Ouachita Parish, as well as with her family and 4-H’ers from other parishes. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Joseph A. Lamendola Sr. Memorial – established in 1983 to honor the late district agent for the then Southeastern District comprising 21 parishes. Provides for a 4-H scholarship.
C.J. “Diddy” and Leona LeBlanc Fund – established in 1995 in memory of C.J. LeBlanc and in honor of his wife, Leona. Provides income to support partial sponsorship of a swine achievement trip to National 4-H Congress and other swine awards.
Louisiana 4-H Agricultural Engineering Awards Fund – established in 1986 by the Louisiana Section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. Provides income to support the 4-H agricultural engineering contests and awards program.
Louisiana Entomology Awards Fund – established in 1983 by Dr. and Mrs. James S. Tynes. Provides income to support the 4-H entomology award trip to the National 4-H Congress.
Louisiana Horse Awards Fund – established in 1985 by Dr. and Mrs. Clinton G. Depew. Major contributors to the Louisiana Horse Awards Fund are Lee and Betty Berwick from Calcasieu Parish. Provides income to support the State Light 4-H Horse Show.
Louisiana Horticulture Awards Fund – established in 1985 to provide support for the state horticultural awards program.
Louisiana Seafood Promotion Fund – established in 1989 by the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board. Provides income to sponsor contests and awards for seafood promotion and education.
Fund in Honor of E.E. Letlow – established in 1987 by the people of Bienville Parish to honor E.E. Letlow, who retired as their county agent in 1987. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Gregory Jude Lewis Memorial – established in 1989 by Dr. and Mrs. Phillip Lewis in memory of their son. This memorial provides income to help sponsor a trip to National 4-H Congress in Washington, D.C.
Fund in Honor of Director Denver T. Loupe – established with funds from the 4-H auction at the 1983 Annual Conference, which were dedicated to honor Dr. Loupe by the Annual Conference planning committee. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Jess Loyd Jr. Memorial – established in 1987 by J. Hugh Watson, chairman of the board of the First National Bank of Shreveport, to honor the bank’s late senior vice president, one of the strongest supporters of the livestock sale at the State Fair in Shreveport. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Mr. and Mrs. Emile V. Martin Memorial – established in 1985 by Ida E. Martin and Eleanor Martin King to honor their parents, who were outstanding Extension leaders in St Tammany Parish. Provides income to sponsor a National 4-H Congress trip in the food preservation contest.
Warren J. Mermilliod III Memorial – established in 1989 to honor the late fisheries agent in St. Bernard Parish. The memorial was established by his wife, Iris, and numerous friends and co-workers. The proceeds from the 1989 Annual Conference Auction were also dedicated to this memorial fund. Provides income to sponsor awards and recognition in marine science education.
J. Cecil McCrory Memorial – established in 1994 to honor the memory of the late county agent and parish chairman in Vermillion Parish. Provides income to support state 4-H awards and recognition.
Bertha Treen Mott Memorial – established in 1984 by the late Elizabeth Smith and the late Tommie Plovanich in honor of their mother, the first full-time home demonstration agent in Louisiana, who was first employed in 1914. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Jason McClaran Memorial – established in 1990 by Dr. and Mrs. William H. Waters to honor the memory of their grandson. Provides income to sponsor a 4-H scholarship to LSU in dairy science.
C.J. Naquin Scholarship Fund – established in 1989 with contributions from his family, friends, fellow Extension personnel and 4-H members and leaders to honor the former state 4-H agent and executive director of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation. Provides an annual 4-H leadership scholarship.
A.P. “Pink” Parham Memorial – established in 1997 to honor the memory of A.P. Parham, animal science specialist, who retired in 1980. Provides income for a 4-H scholarship for a freshman majoring in animal science at LSU or any of its branches.
Gloria Brisolara Perkins Memorial – established in 1985 to honor the late Gloria Brisolara Perkins, a longtime supporter and leader of 4-H. Provides a scholarship for a freshman majoring in animal science at LSU or any of its branches.
Dr. Charles W. Pope Memorial – established in 1994 to honor the memory of Dr. Charlie Pope, a retired poultry specialist with Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Provides income for state 4-H awards and recognition.
Joe W. Rhodes Memorial – established in 1986 to honor the late state director of the Farmer’s Home Administration. Provides income for state 4-H awards and recognition.
Fund in Honor of Jackie and Joe Richard – established in 1983 by the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Richard. The late Mr. Richard was a retired associate director, and Mrs. Richard was home economist in Terrebonne Parish at the time of their marriage. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Sylvia H. Rivers Memorial – established in 1991 by family and friends to honor the late home economist from St. Tammany Parish. Provides sponsorships for a National 4-H Congress trip to the home environment contest winner.
Fund in Honor of Dr. Norma Roberts – established in 1995 to honor Dr. Roberts on the occasion of her retirement as a 4-H division leader after 33 years of service. Provides income for a citizenship record book award.
Donalyn Robillard Memorial – established in 1987 by her family and friends to honor the memory of the former outstanding 4-H’er from Morganza in Pointe Coupee Parish. Provides income to sponsor a National 4-H Congress trip for home economics demonstration contest, a contest she and her twin sister, Tonilyn, won in 1985.
Fund in Honor of Georgia D. Sanders – established in 1984 to honor Mrs. Sanders, who retired in 1984 as a specialist on the state 4-H staff. Provides income to support awards in the home economics demonstration contest award trip to the National 4-H Congress.
H.C. Sanders Scholarship Fund – established in 1982 to honor the director emeritus of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Provides one scholarship annually to former 4-H members enrolled as freshmen at any accredited college, university or trade school.
Dr. Bill Scott Memorial – established in 1991 by family and friends to honor the late swine specialist with the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Provides income to help sponsor the state-winning 4-H meat identification team to represent Louisiana at the national contest.
Fund in Honor of C.S. Shirley – established in 1986 to honor the former state 4-H agent, who retired in 1976. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Fund in Honor of George J. Simoneaux – established in 1991 to honor longtime East Baton Rouge County Agent George Simoneaux. Provides income to support an awards trip to National 4-H Congress for the winning agricultural demonstration team at 4-H University.
A.C. Smith, Sr. Memorial – established in 1987 in memory of the late A.C. Smith Sr., who retired as district agent in 1977 in what was then the Northern District. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Elizabeth Mott “Betty” Smith Memorial – established in 1992 by friends and family to honor the memory of Betty Smith. Mrs. Smith was a longtime 4-H volunteer leader and a trustee of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Albert H. Steinbach Memorial – established in 1980 to honor the late longtime 4-H leader and supporter of 4-H in Louisiana who served as the first chairman of the State Livestock Show Sales Committee in 1932. Provides income for state 4-H awards and recognition.
Fund in Honor of Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Swoope Jr. – established in 1989 upon the retirement of Mr. Swoope, county agent in Calcasieu Parish. The Swoope family has supported the 4-H Club program particularly the sheep project for many years. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Thames Memorial – established in 1984 by Mr. and Mrs. Norvel Thames to honor Mr. Thames’ parents, lifelong residents of Richland Parish, who were farm people interested in public education and young people. Provides income to sponsor state 4-H awards and recognition.
Mrs. Leo Welch Memorial – established in 1991 by family and friends to honor the late Mrs. Thames, wife of retired associate director of Extension Norvel Thames. Provides income to help sponsor recognition in the child development and family life project areas.
Fund in Memory of Norvel E. Thames – established in 1985 to honor Mr. Thames, who retired as associate director in 1979 after 41 years of service in Extension. Provides income to sponsor the child development award trip to the National 4-H Congress.
Donald M. Thrasher Memorial – established in 1983 to honor the late professor and researcher in nutrition and swine production at LSU for his contributions to Louisiana swine producers and the 4-H youth of Louisiana. Provides income to sponsor the swine achievement award trip to the National 4-H Congress.
Mr. and Mrs. James Leo Welch Memorial – established in 1983 by Mr. and Mrs. Norvel Thames to honor the late Mr. and Mrs. Leo Welch, parents of Mrs. Norvel E. Thames, who were actively involved in Extension programs and concerned about the welfare of young people. Provides savings bond for records-only contest in family life.
Larry Willett Memorial Forestry Award – established in 1997 by funds raised from the Louisiana forestry industry and gifts given in memory of the Extension forester. The fund was named for Dr. Willett upon his death in February 1997. Proceeds help send 4-H University forestry winners to the regional forestry contest.
Clifford Lewis Williams Memorial – established in 1993 by his father, Charles O. Williams, and his father-in-law, James Justiss. Cliff was a 4-H alumnus and a loyal supporter of 4-H. He died in 1990. This memorial sponsors the Cliff Williams Memorial Scholarship.
Sidney E. Wood Memorial & Cecile D. Wood In Honor Fund – established in 1997 to honor the parents of Gerald Wood, trustee on the Louisiana 4-H Foundation. Provides income to sponsor a scholarship for graduating St. James Parish 4-H’er.
