They’re among the 21 members of the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council who will work together over the next year to influence the legislative process and make the state a better place for young people.
Members of the council are selected from a pool of applicants who display a strong interest in civic involvement. Two members serve from each of the state’s seven congressional districts, and seven others are designated by and represent a school-sponsored or community service club or organization that has a civic mission.
The 4-H’ers are Caroline Boley of Shreveport, Nathaniel Burton of New Orleans, Alex LeBlanc of Abbeville, DaVante Lewis of Lake Charles and Daniel McFarland of Keithville.
LeBlanc, the official 4-H designee, has been a volunteer in the Keep Abbeville Beautiful campaign and serves on the state 4-H executive committee.
State lawmakers created the Legislative Youth Advisory Council and enacted it into law during the 2007 regular session. The Youth Advisory Council is overseen by the Louisiana Commission on Civic Education.
