Eight St. James Parish 4-H members took part in the town hall meeting held in Reserve, La., with four members of President Barack Obama’s cabinet.

At the July 20 meeting, the 4-H’ers were asked to help facilitate the meeting by acting as hosts for the open microphones in the audience. They also helped sign in guests. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, took time to visit with and take a picture with the 4-H’ers.

The other secretaries present were: Kathleen Sebelius, Health and Human Services; Eric Shineski, Veterans Affairs; and Hilda Solis, Labor.

Members of the audience were able to hear from each cabinet member, and some were able to ask questions. Most questions were about the proposed legislation on health care. President Obama is holding the town hall meetings to hear from the people of the United States.

4-H’ers participating were: Lauren Sherman, Hannah Guidry, Clarissa Guidry, Myrionne Joseph, Marrill McKarry, Jasmine Martin, Laynie Arceneaux and Darren Johnson, along with St. James 4-H Agent, Ken Guidry.
