I am one of twelve State 4-H Fashion Board Members who enjoyed an experience of a lifetime. On July 28-30, 2009, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s 4-H Textile and Apparel Program featured a 4-H Fashion workshop better known as 4-H Project Runway. It was the best experience any sewer can have!
This activity challenged each fashion board member to make a complete new outfit from clothes purchased from a local thrift store -- Here Today Gone Tomorrow. Each of the 12 fashion board members was given a spending limit of $20 and a time limit of 30 minutes. The real challenge was that we were only given 10 hours to completely re-design our newly re-created outfits. The idea was horrifying at first, but once we were given instructions, we had a general idea of what we wanted to do. And then, the challenge became even more challenging!
We learned the basics of design. This project covered everything from the creativity of the first sketch to the final sketch of the exact outfit once it was completed. I definitely gained much knowledge and hands-on training through this activity.
