| The African-American Inventors Curriculum was designed by a team of educators from The Ohio State University Extension Service to encourage fourth- through eighth-grade youth to develop creative and critical thinking skills, to view themselves as inventors and problem solvers, to increase youths' awareness of African-American history and culture and to comprehend and apply scientific principles in everyday life. George Washington Carver is featured with other African-American inventors. The fun, hands-on activities encourage divergent and critical thinking, creativity and motivation. The 13 lessons focus on careers and consist of objectives, measurable outcomes, suggested timeframe, grade levels, materials/supplies needed, vocabulary, introductory activities, biographical sketch, unit background information, experiential activities, suggested evaluation techniques, reading references and “digging deeper” exercises.
