As we enjoy the Memorial Day weekend as a kickoff to summer -- a time for picnics, festivals and weekend getaways – take a moment to remember. Many of us enjoy the holiday but forget its true intent: honoring the 1.2 million men and women in uniform throughout the history of our nation who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy. The White House Commission on Remembrance reminds us to take a minute at 3 p.m. local time to remember them; not as a gesture endorsing your political views, but in honor of brave men and women who gave their lives for you. Their true memorial is the nation and culture we create from their sacrifice.
