Evangeline 4-H'ers Serve Chicot State Park and Arboretum

Sixteen 4-H youth and four adult volunteers from Evangeline Parish have partnered with Chicot State Park and Arboretum. As of March 4, 2008, 108 hours have been dedicated to this project. The goals of this project were to research the history of the state park and arboretum, assist with beautification projects for the grounds, plan and conduct environmentally friendly awareness workshops, and serve as a means for promoting and marketing the programs provided by the park and arboretum. The 4-H Junior Leadership Club conducted monthly educational programs with the cooperation of the staff of Chicot State Park and Arboretum. The 4-H Junior Leadership Club members toured the arboretum, participated in a Trash Bash program for Chicot State Park and assisted with a blue bird birdhouse workshop. The project reflection has included small-group discussions and reports to the membership. At this time, the celebration activity has been a picnic in the park after the completion of one of the major events at the park. All 4-H youth and adult volunteers enjoyed the celebration.
