Thirty-two jr. leaders and four adult volunteers participated in two Easter egg hunts to support the community. As of March 16, 2008, 16 hours and 150 people have been served. The goal of the project was to provide a chance for less fortunate children in the parish to celebrate Easter through finding Easter eggs and to teach youth how to give back to their communities. The Junior Leader Club collaborated with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Acadiana and Shadows on the Teche. The Jr. Leadership Club found a need for clients of Big Brothers and Big Sisters after speaking with an adult involved with BB/BS of Acadiana. The agent met and discussed the Easter egg hunts with parents/volunteer leaders. The project was announced at the monthly Junior Leader meeting. 4-H club members voted on dates, types of snack items and where the egg hunts were to take place. The Junior Leader Club collected 970 eggs along with candy to fill the eggs to hide at each hunt. The week of the egg hunt, the 4-H’ers came together to fill the plastic eggs with candy and to prepare a snack that would be given to the children. The weather was beautiful, and many children were able to enjoy hunting for Easter eggs at the local city park on one day and at Shadows on the Teche another. They discussed the project at the next Jr. Leader meeting as a reflection, as well as learned how to support their communities.
