YES/4-H has had many service-learning projects. The community celebrated Arbor Day in February 2008. Trees were donated and planted at a local community park. It was also followed by an Arbor Day poster contest, where 30 students participated and three were recognized as having done a great job. Each student was awarded a stipend. Y.E.S /4-H makes monthly visits at St. Helena Parish nursing home once a month.
Youth of St. Helena Parish visit the nursing home and take patients “goodies” when they go. For the month of October we read books and played games. In November each child had a foster grandparent to go and visit and tell them what they are thankful for. In December we made Christmas bags and ornaments, sang Christmas carols and supplied each patient with a banana. In February we had a Mardi Gras parade. Below are some pictures for viewing.
