4-H youth from Bossier Parish decided to participate in a service-learning project at the veterans nursing home. The goal of this project was to offer Bossier-Caddo youth a sense of belonging in their community through intergenerational connections. Youth and adults partnered to perform three service-learning projects. The youth chose these three project areas based on past involvement with these agencies. The 4-H Junior Leaders visited the service sites to perform activities that they planned or were assigned to. Celebrations were done at each site prior to the end of the school year. After each service, 4-H staff from Bossier/Caddo asked the youth what they enjoyed the most about the day, what they struggled with and how can they make the overall experience for everyone more positive each time. Youth built upon these reflection experience and developed programs that benefited the veterans and themselves each time.
