Postsecondary Education Review Commission Approves Final Report
BATON ROUGE, La. – Members of the Postsecondary Education Review Commission completed their work today, recommending changes in higher education governance, improved accountability and stronger performance-based funding. The commission approved their final report after six months of studying the keypostsecondary education issues in Louisiana.
PERC Final Report
The Postsecondary Education Review Commission (PERC) was established “… to review all aspects of postsecondary education in order toensure that the enterprise is operating efficiently, effectively, and in a manner that bestserves students, their families, and the state and to make recommendations forchanges necessary to ensure that the system is operating in that manner.” Thelegislation recognized that “postsecondary education is one of the most criticalcomponents of economic developme
CABL Recommendations to Move Higher Education Forward
Since the state instituted minimum admission standards, TOPS scholarships, and the community college system, post-secondary education in Louisiana has shown steady improvement in several areas such as the number of degrees awarded, freshmen with higher ACT scores and reductions in the number of students taking remedial courses atfour-year institutions. Other positive efforts in recent years include faculty salary increases and targeted funding to high-quality research and development centers.
Business Coalition on Higher Education, Initial Recommendations
Twenty business groups around the state have signed on to participate as a business and economic development coalition for higher education reform focusing on key outcomes.
LSU System Statement on PERC Final Report
BATON ROUGE---LSU System President Dr. John Lombardi today issued the following statement on the Postsecondary Education Review Commission’s Final Report: The Louisiana State University System and its component institutions have observed and when requested participated in the discussions of the PERC throughout its work. It has, at the request of the Board of Regents staff, provided much data and information on topics of interest to Commission members. The commitment of time and effort by t
