The 2008 Spring Garden Show in New Orleans will be held at the City Park Botanical Garden April 5-6.
Karen Blackburn, the LSU AgCenter horticulture agent in Orleans Parish and coordinator of the show, said each show lets people of the region know that “the city is getting back to normal.”
“Each spring we try to do something different with the show,” Blackburn said. “New for this year’s show will be an information booth to help visitors easily find their way through the gardens.”
As with past shows, exhibits and sales booths will be featured throughout the botanical garden.
“As you browse through the garden, there will be various vendors with plants and garden products for sale,” Blackburn said. “We also will have educational speakers covering a wide variety of gardening topics. And this year, we will again have 4-H members helping in the kid’s discovery area.”
The show will be open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
The spring show also will provide a special tent where LSU AgCenter specialists will answer questions relating to tree and plant health.
In addition, soil samples also may be brought in for analysis by the LSU AgCenter's Soil Testing Lab.
“The spring show is definitely a fun event for the entire family,” Blackburn said.
Admission to the event is $6 for adults and $2 for children ages 5-12. Children under 5 and members of Friends of City Park may enter free.
The 2008 New Orleans Spring Garden Show is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter in cooperation with the Metro Horticulture Foundation and the New Orleans Botanical Garden.
