Wood Duck Boxes
in
Vermillion Parish!

It’s time for hen wood ducks to find suitable nest sites and start laying eggs. In an effort to enhance the wood duck’s natural nesting success, the America’s Wetland Conservation Corps (AWCC), the Vermilion Chapter of Delta Waterfowl, the LSU AgCenter and the Abbeville High School Industrial Arts Department have joined together to construct wood duck boxes to be placed along the Vermilion River and other suitable wood duck habitats. Vermilion Parish took a great hit by Hurricane Rita in 2005; hundreds of natural tree cavities were blown down, and many nest boxes were destroyed. These new boxes will help the birds reproduce in Vermilion Parish.
We are seeking volunteers to join in on our conservation effort! The Vermilion Chapter of Delta Waterfowl has donated the materials, and students at Abbeville High School have worked hard to assemble more than 65 nest boxes. We are asking for volunteers to help us get these boxes up.
