[Image: Image 1]Identification: Cardiocondyla nuda are small (1-2 mm) ants that appear to be all the same size. The body is covered with hair pressed against the body. These ants look long and slender from above. They have small spines on the back. They are brown, with the head and abdomen being darker than the thorax. (Pest Ants of Louisiana). This species resembles thief ants (Solenopsis) that have two fewer segments on the antennae.
Biology: Colonies can be found in soil and plant cavities in small, cryptic nests. This species is exotic and a pest in some areas. Because of their small, cryptic nests in soil and among plants, this species can be transported easily by commerce. This species is carnivorous.
Treatment: Apply a proteinaceous granular bait in areas where these ants are a problem.
