Welcome to the Louisiana Flood Map Portal.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency reassessed flood risk across the nation beginning in 2003 to create new digital flood insurance rate maps (DFIRMs). The DFIRMs replace previous paper maps, many of which were 30 or more years old. The FEMA Map Modernization effort represents the most accurate map of flood risk that could be developed. They consider flooding that comes from the Gulf, river flooding and drainage issues. These maps set standards for the National Flood Insurance Program.

Currently, the Louisiana Mapping Project (LaMP) is contracted to host 17 parishes' Preliminary DFIRMs, most of which reside along the coast. The LSU AgCenter plans to provide online mapping tools for the rest of parish DFIRMs as they are released. While not all Preliminary DFIRMs that have been released are available on our mapping Web site, we are continually adding them in the order that open houses are scheduled.

Please use the map below by moving your mouse over the parish for which you would like to view the digital flood maps and assess a property’s risk for flooding. If your parish is shaded gray, then check back later because we will continue to add flood maps as they are available.

Outreach Services

Throughout 2009 and 2010, The University of New Orleans Center for Hazards Assessment, Response and Technology (UNO-CHART) and the LSU AgCenter will be available to conduct open houses for Louisiana parishes through a grant from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. These forums bring federal, state and local resources to a common location to help residents determine how changes in the new flood maps may affect their properties. If you are a local official interested in scheduling this service, contact UNO-CHART here. To see if your community is conducting an event soon, check out the list of upcoming events on the right side of this page.
