LSU AgCenter Herbaceous Plant Evaluations – Summer and Fall 2004

Herbaceous plant trials at the LSU AgCenter have been ongoing for years. Some plants worth mentioning from summer and fall 2004 evaluations include:

  • 'Fairytale' Series Portulaca
  • 'Lucky Pot of Gold' Lantana
  • 'Sweet Caroline Bronze' Ornamental Sweet Potato
  • 'Profusion Fire' Zinnia
  • 'Profusion Apricot' Zinnia
  • 'Ladybird' Series Cosmos
  • 'Aurora Black Cherry' Coleus
  • 'Fresh Look Red' Celosia
  • 'Linde Armstrong' Cleome
  • 'Princess' Series Perennial Verbena

The 'Victory' series vinca did well in 2004 despite excessive rainfall, which normally brings on disease problems for this crop. The new 'Titan' series vinca also did well in a late summer through fall evaluation.

Information on LSU AgCenter herbaceous plant trials is available by contacting horticulturists Allen Owings or Jeff Kuehny at 225/578-2222 or by e-mail to aowings@agcenter.lsu.edu or jkuehny@agcenter.lsu.edu.
