Dr. William C. Welch is a landscape specialist for Texas AgriLife Extension Service in the Horticultural Sciences Department at Texas A & M University. He is a native of Houston and attended Louisiana State University completing an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture, a masters and doctoral degrees in horticulture and extension education. He has served as national chairman for Landscape Design for the National Garden Clubs and is an honorary member of the Garden Club of America. In May, 2008, Dr. Welch was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and in 2007 the Zone 9, their Historic Preservation Award for GCA.
Dr. Welch’s books, Perennial Garden Color, (Taylor Publishing Co, 1989), Antique Roses for the South, The Southern Heirloom Garden, and The Bountiful Flower Garden, have been best sellers and trend-setting material for southern gardeners. His articles and gardens have been features of Southern Living and other publications. He is past president of The Southern Garden History Society and continues to serve on their Board of Directors. Gardening, collecting heirloom bulbs, roses and other plants, along with associated travel and friendships continue to be priorities. He lives in College Station, Texas.
