Vegetable Field Day

The La-Terre Master Gardeners and the LSU AgCenter in cooperation with the USDA Sugarcane Research Facility in Houma hosted their 9th annual Vegetable Field Day on Saturday, June 20, 2009. Over 200 people attended this event spearheaded by Master Gardener Sandra Boudreaux.

While touring the garden and the USDA Sugarcane Research facility, questions were answered by several experts and Master Gardeners. Visitors also received information concerning horticulture and canning, freezing and dehydrating vegetables. The tomato taste tests were a big hit as usual.

The winners of the largest tomato contest were:  Hugh Paul Fanguy, 3.396 pounds (adult division), and Mallory Jennings, 1.414 pounds (youth division).
