[Image: janetnlab]Analyses performed by the Microbiology Section include mycotoxins, pathogenic bacteria, vitamin A, antibiotics in feed and Karnal Bunt testing. Other analyses may be performed based on Department Head approval and available resources.
Mycotoxins:
Aflatoxin in corn, cottonseed, etc. determined by HPLC/Fluorescence
Fumonisin in corn: determined by HPLC/Fluorescence
Others by special request
Pathogenic Bacteria:
Salmonella species in food, water, feeds, etc
Listeria in food and water
E. coli 0157:H7 in food and water
Coliforms (fecal coliforms) in food and water
E.coli (MPN most probable number) in food and water
Total aerobic plate counts in food and water
Vibrio species in food and water
Antibiotics in feeds:
Chlortetracycline: by HPLC/UV as well as zone of inhibition
Oxytetracycline: zone of inhibition
Sulfamethazine: colorimetric determination
Sulfaquinoxaline: colorimetric determination
Monesin: colorimetric determination
Gentamicin (in turtle dip and water): HPLC/UV
Cyanogenetic glycosides in feeds and similar materials are determined by qualitative methods.
Karnal Bunt disease in wheat:
Liquid extraction and microscopic determination of the presence of Tilletia indica spores
