Microbiology Section

Analyses performed by the Microbiology Section include mycotoxins, pathogenic bacteria and antibiotics in turkey and turtle dip solutions. Other analyses may be performed based on Department Head approval and available resources.

Mycotoxins:

Aflatoxin in corn, cottonseed, feeds, etc. determined by HPLC/Fluorescence.

Fumonisin in corn and feeds determined by Vicam Fumonisin Test.

Pathogenic Bacteria:

Salmonella species in food, water, feeds, etc.
Listeria in food and water
E. coli 0157:H7 in food and water


Antibiotics:

Gentamicin (in turtle dip and turkey dip solutions): HPLC/UV

Cyanogenetic glycosides in feeds and similar materials are determined by qualitative methods.

Research Projects:

Rapid Detection of Vibrio vulnificus and V. parahaemolyticus
Marine: in water and seafood toxin analyses.
