Required Courses
M.S. Program
The minimum requirement is 30 semester hours, including 24 hours of course work and 6 hours in thesis research. At least one-half of the minimum requirement must be in courses at or above the 7000 level. Other courses must be at least at the 4000 level.
Prerequisite Courses: Basic sciences such as chemistry (including BCH4087 or equivalent), microbiology and physics.

Ph.D. Program
The minimum requirement is 60 semester hours (post BS degree) with at least on-half in courses at or above the 7000 level. The following courses (or equivalents) are required in the Food Science Ph.D. program:
Prerequisite Courses: Basic sciences such as chemistry (including BCH4087 or equivalent), microbiology and physics, Food Composition and Analysis (FDSC4050, 4h), Food Chemistry (FDSC4060, 4h), Food Microbiology (FDSC4162, 4h), and Food Preservation (FDSC4075, 3h). If there are deficits here, the Graduate Advisory Committee will advise about taking additional courses.
