Land use and management (LUM) concerns the comprehensive consideration of land use and planning. Concepts such as sustainable land management, best management practices, and ecological stewardship are emphasized throughout the course. Applications of these concepts are applied to watersheds, soils, major land resource areas, and urban-suburban interfaces with natural systems.
As a planning tool, major emphasis in the course is placed on GIS use and advanced applications such as interpolation analyses and geostatistical techniques. Students completing the course will be thoroughly versed in ArcGIS 9x application as it relates to natural resource management.
