Acadia Parish is made up of 419,400 acres of land with a population of approximately 60,000 residents. Rice, soybeans and crawfish are the major commodity. The Attakapas Indians were the early inhabitants of Acadia Parish. The first settlement of Acadia Parish was made by the exiled Acadians of Canada, who were persuaded with land, cattle and agricultural implements, by the Spanish Government.
