Safety affects each of us every day. Learning to be safe at home, at school, and at play can have a major impact on our lives. Learning about safety can be fun, and teaching others about safety can change the way you think and live.
January 25-31, 2009 is Ascension Parish 4-H Safety Week. This exciting time is your chance as a 4-H'er to earn a few awards for yourself as well as your club.
Club Competition
Each Club conducts Safety activities throughout the year. Be sure to take pictures and write news articles so you will have materials to put in the club Safety Scrapbook due on Friday March 27, 2009. Most clubs conduct safety activities yearly, but during this week they do extra activities and have guest speakers.
Individual Competition
Contest competition for individual 4-H'ers will fall into two forms:
Posters (11 ½ X 14 size poster) and Poems (8 ½ X 11 size sheet of paper).
The five (5) categories for poster/poem competition are Fire Safety, Internet Safety, Home Safety, General Safety, and Automotive Safety.
It is very important to remember to print your name, school and grade, age, and category on the back of your poster and/or poem. (same as last year)
Each category has three (3) age levels of competition: Elementary (4-5) grades, Junior (6-8) grades and Senior (9-12) grades.
4-H agents will collect your posters and poems in each subject category at your January club meeting.
