Start Date: Friday, February 27, 2009
End Date: Friday, February 27, 2009
Duration: 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM
Location: Highland Road Park Observatory 13800 Highland Road
Description: Join the Ascension Parish 4-H SET club at the Highland Road Observatory in Baton Rouge, LA for a night out viewing the stars. The evening starts with a engaging presentation, "Kepler: The Search for Other Earths". This fascinating spacecraft blasting off in March is designed to survey our area of the Milky Way galaxy...and possibly locate hundreds of planets the size of Earth and smaller. The next step toward discovering if "anyone is out there" has arrived!

Weather permitting, free viewing through telescopes will take place for ninety minutes. During this time the waxing crescent Moon will be 10 percent illuminated at a maximum altitude of 3 degrees. Please keep headlights off while parking and leaving, and drive slowly!

Families will also enjoy a fireside marshmallow roast. In order to help support this free service provided by BREC, LSU, and BRAS please bring 1 bag of large marshmallows for future roasts!
