The Ascension Parish 4-H Junior Leaders took an educational/recreational awards trip discovering some of the "Old South." They visited the city of St. Francisville and took a step back in time to tour a southern antebellum home, The Myrtles Plantation, dating back to 1796. The Myrtles, considered to be the 13th most haunted house in the Nation, did not seem to discourage this hearty group as they embarked on the "Mystery Ghost Tour." While in the city of St. Francisville they took the time out to hike and experience the breathtaking waterfalls of Tunica Hills.

"These youth had a great fun filled educational time visiting the historical home, antique shops, restaurants, architectural treasures, and landmarks right here in the south of Louisiana," said Kayla Haydel, Ascension 4-H agent. "We are so excited and look forward to working with the youths in Ascension Parish."

Louisiana 4-H is a youth development program of the LSU AgCenter. Each year qualifying Junior Leaders are awarded with a fun, educataional trip at the end of the year. The 2008 Junior Leaders will travel to Houston and Galveston to enjoy ice skating, Houston Astros game, Schlitterban, Moody Gardens and more. For more information on becoming a Junior Leader or the Ascension 4-H program contact Kayla Haydel or Jamie Templet at 225-621-5799.
