Textiles and Apparel Program
The parish offers many opportunities for youth interested in the world of fashion. Youth can serve on leadership boards, attend fashion camps and enter sewing contests.
4-H'ers can enroll in the 4-H Clothing project to learn more about textiles and apparel. Within the parish there are many activities and programs available for the various age groups.
Youth ages 4th-6th grade can participate in a yearly fashion camp generally held in the Fall. For more information and dates, see the Ascension 4-H Calendar.
Teens can join the Junior Leader Fashion Board which works to help promote the 4-H Clothing project. They serve as leaders in educational and program activities on a parish level. For youth interested in serving as leaders on a state level, the state 4-H program sponsors a State Leadership Fashion Board. This board works together across the state to promote fashion in their parishes and host the State Fashion Camp.
All 4-H'ers are invited to participate in the annual Sew With Cotton Contest where they can sew an apron, skirt, dress, pajamas or other outfit of their choice. Candidates for the State Fashion camp are selected from contest participants. The State Fashion Camp allows 4-H'ers to take their sewing and fashion to the next level in a fun filled weekend at Camp Grant Walker.
If you are interested in learn more about sewing and fashion, please email Mrs. Jo Ann Hullum at hullum@etigers.net or phone the 4-H office at 225-621-5799 or email Kayla Haydel.
