Arielle Sutton, an eight-year member of the 4-H program in Ascension Parish, was elected on the first ballot as state 4-H Club reporter at the annual 4-H University this summer.
Campaign managers/voting delegates Elania Vercher and Scott Braud rallied the Ascension Parish 4-H'er in her campaign. Ascension voting delegates were tirelessly campaigning for Arielle behind the scenes. Arielle’s fellow junior leaders campaigned with the Under the Sea theme with signs and bubbles.
Arielle implored the delegates to let her be part of their 4-H world by incorporating her solo from Walt Disney’s The Little Mermaid into her campaign speech. The song was beautiful and the technique unique. Delegates from the 64 parishes showed their approval by electing Arielle over the other four candidates on the first ballot. Arielle is responsible for publishing the state 4-H newsletter, the Rovin Clover. Arielle also is a member of the state 4-H executive board, which helps to plan the statewide activities of the Louisiana 4-H program.
Other Ascension Parish 4-H'ers also distinguished themselves with their service and election to state 4-H boards. Brittany Babineaux was a finalist in the competition for National 4-H Conference delegate, and she also was elected to her second term on the state 4-H Food and Fitness Board. Meghan McDonald was tapped to serve her second term on the state 4-H Fashion Board. The Food and Fashion boards plan camp activities for junior 4-H'ers in addition to parish cooking competitions, educational programs and fashion shows. Elected to the state SET (Science, Engineering and Technology) board were Joy Semien and Elaina Vercher. The SET board helps plan and run LOST camp for junior 4-H'ers, plans statewide SET activities and helps maintain parish 4-H Web sites.
Congratulations to Arielle, Brittany, Meghan Joy, and Elaina for their accomplishments. For more information about the 4-H program in Ascension Parish, call the parish office at (225) 621-5799 or e-mail ascension@agcenter.lsu.edu.
