The Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service recently conducted the 2008 Adult and 4-H Youth Home Vegetable Garden Contest in Assumption Parish. The contest was conducted by Rick Louque, County Agent.
The contest’s objective is to encourage home vegetable growers to produce quality vegetables for home consumption, economic gain, and learn how to control insects and diseases in the home vegetable garden. It also restores the all time pleasure of gardening.
The Extension Service is grateful to our judges for their time and help. Judges for this year’s contest were Mrs. Brenda Aucoin (Master Gardener), Mrs. Elaine Adolph (Master Gardener) and Mandy York (representing Lower Delta Soil and Water Conservation Department).
Winners of the Adult Home Vegetable Garden Contest were: First Place – Harvey Gauthreaux, Second Place – Rene Credeur and Third Place – Robert LeBlanc. Honorable Mentions go to Robert Forester, Jason Johnson and Woodrow Oubre, Jr.
Winners of the Youth Vegetable Garden Contest were: First Place – Chana Cazenave, Second Place – Rebecca Gremillion, Third Place – Trisha LeBlanc and Fourth Place – Haley and Mallory Crochet. Honorable mentions go to Hannah Landry, Megan Landry, Neely Landry, Kaci Leonard, Kaitlyn Richard and Brooke Thibodaux. Winners of the contest were presented with prizes and each participant was given a certificate. The winners and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service would like to express their appreciation to Cindy and Dan Boudreaux of Ace Hardware in Napoleonville, Gayle and Wayne Boudreaux of Ace Hardware in Paincourtville and the Lower Delta Soil and Water Conservation District (LDSWCD) for sponsoring the contest awards.
