Assumption 4-H Ag Day 2008

The objective of Ag Day is to educate Pre-K through 4th graders about agriculture and its importance in Assumption Parish. Assumption Parish 4-H Ag Day celebrated its 10th Anniversary on April 3 and 4 with approximately 2300 Pre-K through 4th graders from Assumption, Ascension and Lafourche Parishes. This event was held in conjunction with the Louisiana 4-H Centennial Celebration.

Children are taught where their food comes from and other important agricultural facts. There were twenty-three display booths, many of which included hands-on activities. These booths included Cotton-The Story of Blue Jeans, Corn-A Golden Treasure, History of Agriculture (farm equipment), Louisiana Swampland (alligators, fish, crawfish, etc.), Backyard Bass, Test Your Knowledge (flip charts), Louisiana Fruits and Vegetables, ATV Safety, Shopping for Agriculture (Farm Bureau), Magic of Moo (milk a cow), Pizza Garden, Turkey Talk, “Wood You Like to Know”, Mini-Farm, Sand Art (Assumption FFA), Celebrating 100 Years of 4-H in Louisiana, and Farm Animals on display.

This two day event is held annually with approximately 100 to 125 volunteers each day. They include 4-H’ers, Jr. Leaders, Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and adult volunteers. Sponsors for this event are area organizations, businesses, elected officials and farmers.
