Persian Clover in Avoyelles
Pictured below is a stand of Persian clover in late April in Mansura. It was grown on a high pH, sandy soil. The owner, Johnny Rogers, is awaiting dry, sunny weather for an extended period so this stand of high-quality forage can be put into 70-pound square bales of hay for sale locally. This stand of Persian clover was planted in fall 2009 on land that was used for growing sweet potatoes and soybeans in previous growing seasons. The clover was expected to yield 75-100 bales anacre. The owner planned to cut the stand of clover (20 acres) with a disc mower/conditioner followed by two to three days of drying then baling.
