[Image: group picture]Beauregard 4-H youth had the opportunity to represent Beauregard Parish at annual 4-H summer camp held at Camp Grant Walker Educational Center. This year's theme is 4-H Camp Grant Walker “It Will grow on You." This camp with its educational activities and programs is a program of the LSU AgCenter. Youth had the opportunity to swim, canoe and play softball, volleyball, basketball, parachute games and ping pong and participate in handicrafts, dances and many other fun activities. Youth participated in educational activities throughout the week as well. Participants could select one of the following educational tracks to increase their knowledge and help build life skills. Educational tracts offered were: Outdoor Skills; Dramatic Arts; Recharge – Food and Fitness; Get Ready, get SET – Science, Engineering and Technology; Explore Wetlands, Wildlife and You! Youth attending chose one track and received nine hours of training in that topic field.
Beauregard youth camped with nearly 500 other youth from the parishes of Acadia, Jeff Davis, Lafourche and Point Coupee. Thanks to our Junior Counselors Jesse Elliott, Kari Jarrell, Kelsey Johnson, Carlin LeDoux and Thomas Shaver. Also thanks to Mrs. Lezlie Midkiff for supervising our parish girls, Mr. Hank Cooley for transporting our campers to and from camp, Beauregard Parish School Board for providing transportation and Mrs. Lisa Landry for helping make sure the paperwork was done. Those wishing to attend 4-H camp in 2010 should join 4-H during our September 4-H meetings. Those wishing to receive more information about 4-H may contact Mike Lavergne at 337-463-7006.
