4-H Camp, It will grow on you!

Bienville Parish 4-H’ers attended 4-H Camp June 1-5. The camp was held at the LSU AgCenter’s Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, an 80-acre camp located near Pollock, La. Twenty-seven youth, six teen counselors, two adult volunteer leaders and the Bienville Parish 4-H agent attended.

Camping is one of the most valuable experiences a child can have. It’s a learning experience that helps boys and girls appreciate the outdoors, live together as a group, get along with others and appreciate people with different interests and backgrounds. Youth had a variety of educational tracks to choose from: Dramatic Arts, Outdoor Adventures, SET (Science, Engineering & Technology), Food and Fitness, and Wetlands.

Camp also offers an archery and shotgun competition. The top five from every week are invited back to participate in a state competition at the end of the summer. Bienville Parish had three youth place in the top 5 in the archery competition and one youth place in the top 5 of the shotgun competition.

If you are interested in knowing more about 4-H, call Elizabeth Lynn at the LSU AgCenter, 318-263-7400.
