On June 9, 2007, Tanya Griffith participated at the Northwest District 4-H Horse Show held at Double R Arena in Stonewall, Louisiana. Tanya qualified and placed well in eleven events including barrels, stakes, breakaway roping, western riding, reigning, western pleasure, western horsemanship, halter aged quarter horse gelding, halter aged quarter horse mare, miniature halter, and western showmanship. Her points in these events won her the well deserved titles of Reserve Champion All-Around in Performance and Reserve Champion All-Around in Speed.
By qualifying in all of the above mentioned events Tanya was able to progress and compete in her choice of the activities at the LSU 4-H State Horse Show held July 9th -13th, at the Ike Hamilton Expo in West Monroe. Tanya participated in stakes (1st place), barrels (8th place), team demonstration (1st place), miniature halter (2nd place), and reigning (11th place), break away, and team penning. First places in stakes and team demonstration contest provided Tanya the opportunity to further her travels all the way to Memphis, Tennessee for the Southern Regional Horse Show the first week of August. After arriving in Memphis, Tennessee, with other Louisiana 4-Hers and their families for the Southern Regional Horse Show, Tanya and her horse “Dollar” competed with other 4-H youth from thirteen states and placed 11th in stakes, 8th in barrels, and 4th in the team demonstration.
Tanya is the 14 year old daughter of Malcolm and Renee Griffith of Ringgold, LA. Tanya has been an active 4-Her since the 4th grade and enjoys other 4-H activities including but not limited to the horse project, clothing and sewing projects, and photography. Tanya has played a vital role with 4-H leadership and has worked very hard in our service learning projects.
