FASHION CAMP
For ages 10-13, our "SEW" Much Fun in a Winter Wonderland Camp is held at Camp Grant Walker, January 23-24, 2010. Bossier may send two 4-H members and the cost is $55-$65 each. They will learn sewing terms, sewing machine use, pattern layout, and more! Also, they will bring home many fun and useable items sewn by them! These campers must have a volunteer chaperone to accompany them at camp. You may sign-up starting Oct. 21. The delay is so all our members have had the chance to read their newsletter. STATE FAIR COMPETITIVE EXHIBITS
Did you know, you can win prize money and ribbons for your special craft items? Sewing, Knitting, Arts and Crafts, Photography, and MANY MORE types of items, made this year, will be accepted for competition. Once the fair opens, you will be able to visit the Agricultural Building to view your items and see if you have won a ribbon! If you’re interested in entering items at the State Fair of Louisiana, go to the following website for information: http://www.statefairoflouisiana.com/ . On the first page, click on “Competitive Exhibits," second page “Junior” (for specific rules and categories), and also on “Entry Forms” (at top of first page) to download the form required for identifying your entries. Entries will be accepted at the Agricultural Building (located on the State Fair of Louisiana Fairgrounds) on Sunday, October 18, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and again on Monday the 19, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. After the fair is over, your items may be picked up at the same location on Monday, November 9, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. The staff will need extra time to finalize the check-out procedure on all items, so NO EARLY pick-ups please!
NORTHWEST SHOTGUN LEAGUE

ANNUAL PENNY DRIVE
Start saving your pennies for our annual penny drive! The penny drive will end March 12 and must be turned in by that date to be eligible for the Penny Drive School Award at Awards Night.
STATE FAIR POULTRY POSTER CONTEST
Would you like to win $20, $15, or $10? Learn more about poultry and eggs and their importance to healthy bodies. Demonstrate communication skills by drawing a billboard encouraging or promoting the consumption of poultry or eggs. Use a 22”x28” poster board to illustrate a billboard design. This contest is open to all 4-H and FFA members, grades four through 12, with three age divisions. To enter and a chance to win one of the cash prizes, go online and type in www.statefairoflouisiana.com.Click on Livestock, then Junior Division, then Poultry Poster Contestfor the complete rules. Your poster and an entry form are due on October 24, 2009, at the State Fair Poultry Barn or State Fair Office by noon.
CLOVER "4-H" BUDS
Bossier Parish 4-H is putting together a CLOVER BUDS CLUB. This 4-H based group will be open to kids ages 5-8 and to the first 100, dues paid, enrollers. Our leaders are Gail Smith and Christi Turner. Ms. Gail is a teacher at Waller Elementary and the Waller 4-H leader. Ms. Christi is a former 4-H’er, a Fashion Board Leader, and Junior Leader volunteer. The first meeting is October 15, Waller Elementary, at 6:00 p.m. Monthly meetings, thereafter, will rotate locations to accommodate all parish members. STATE FAIR BB GUN CONTEST

SEEKING STATE FAIR QUIZ BOWL TEAMERS
Mr. Troy still needs a couple of ambitious 4-H members who would like to participate in the Livestock Quiz Bowl. Deadline to sign up is Oct. 9. This competition will be held on October 24, at the State Fair of Louisiana. Mr. Troy will teach you all you need to know in order to answer questions against other parish teams. LSU AG MAGIC AT THE STATE FAIR
The LSU AgCenter's AgMagic is an interactive, visually stimulating, educational experience for kids and their families. Between Nov. 4 and Nov. 7, everyone can learn about the important connection among agriculture, the environment and their lives.
SURVIVAL CAMP (This is short notice, but do-able!)
For grades seven through 12. This camp includes 11 area parishes and will be held October 15-16 at Gum Springs Campgrounds on Hwy 84 (southwest) outside of Winnfield. Our parish is allowed no more than 12 Campers. There must be male and female volunteer chaperones if there are to be male and female campers. These volunteers must be “Overnight Chaperone” trained by one of our parish agents. The camp cost is $30 per person, and meals are provided. Topics during the camp will include; Forestry, Wildlife, First Aid, ATV, and Outdoor Skills. If your parent is willing to be trained and would like to take you camping, this event will be fun and worthwhile. Call our office at 965-2326 for more details and to sign up. We need to hear from you now, to meet the deadline.
HORNETS BASKETBALL
HORNETS BASKETBALL! Load the charter bus to New Orleans, February 19, 2010. For $75 per person, you will receive round-trip transportation, and a game ticket. 4-H youth will be able to participate in pregame or halftime court activities. Space is limited. A variety of cooking contests are being held November 1-7. Pre-registration is required. Entry forms are due by October 12. Prizes are great! Entries should be taken to the Agricultural Building inside the fair grounds on the specific date and time. EACH INDIVIDUAL CONTEST HAS SPECIFIC RULES, SO LOG ON TO www.statefairoflouisiana.com

OUTDOOR SKILLS PROGRAM - Shooting Sports Registration Meeting
Are you interested in learning more about the areas of BB gun, shotgun, muzzle loading, archery or rifle? If you want to find out all there is to know about the Bossier Parish Shooting Sports program, then attend our meeting on Tuesday, November 10, at 6:00 p.m.at Bossier Instructional Center (next to Airline High). A parent MUST attend this meeting with their child(ren).
Call the Bossier Parish 4-H office at 965-2326 to get your name on the list for attending this meeting. We will email out a meeting notification with all of the details a week prior to November 10.
PET SHOW RESULTS
Our Pet Show took place at the state fairgrounds on September 26. All the participants did a fantastic job with their furry or feathery friends. There were cats, dogs, rabbits, a parakeet, and a chinchilla for a total of 48 entries in the show. We are looking forward to next year’s show. Here are the results:

BOSSIER PARISH LIVESTOCK SHOW RESULTS
Our parish livestock show was held September 26 at the state fairgrounds. Congratulations to the Bossier Livestock Team for a great showing! Members who participated were: Clayton Simmons, Amber Shamsie, Chloe Thompson, Caitlyn Thompson, Rosa Harrell, Ian Jeardoe, Sam Balentine, Jarrad Coleman, Kendyl Balentine, Lacey Dodson, Blake Shamsie, Alex Sauer, Faith Watson, Sidney Lain and Loren Thibodaux.
