Area 4-H Leader Forum
Caldwell Parish 4-H volunteer leaders Patricia Russell, Portia Cassels and Danyell Guerrero were among the many 4-H leaders who attended this year's Northeast Area Leader Forum held at the Rayville Civic Center. 4-H leaders from the Northeast Louisiana area were invited to attend the training -- where they were given the opportunity to participate in several professional development sessions focused on 4-H youth development that were presented by 4-H state specialists.

Louisiana Art and Folk Festival
The Louisiana Art and Folk Festival will be held Saturday, October 11, in downtown Columbia. Please make plans to visit the 4-H Petting Zoo and Children's Tent where there will be many animals, arts and crafts activities and face painting. Members of the 4-H Junior Leader Club and Fashion, Food and Fitness Club are asked to assist with these activities. If you have not already signed up to help, please call the 4-H office at (318) 649-2663 to designate a time you can work with the 4-H activities.

This month's 4-H contest is the Leaf ID contest. Entries are due to your 4-H leader or the 4-H office by Thursday, October 30. The contest rules can be obtained from your 4-H leader or the 4-H office.

Character Corner
The Six Pillars of Character are "TRRFCC" - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

  • The Six Pillars of Character are the behavior standard for 4-H Club members.
  • 4-H Club members are responsible for their behavior at school, club meetings and all 4-H activities.
  • 4-H Club members are to make "TRFCC" decisions.
  • 4-H Club members can help others to be "TRFCC" - trustworthy, respectful, responsible, fair, caring and good citizens.

Eat Enough . . . . . Not Too Much
When you don't eat enough, you may miss out on nutrients you need for energy and for good health. Your body needs nutrients to grow strong and healthy. If you eat too much, you may get more food energy (calories) than you need to grow and move. This also might result in weight gain. The best solution is to eat enough but not too much. Try these tips to help you eat enough but not too much:
+ Skip the urge to eat from a bag. Measure out one serving and put the rest away.
+ Buy packages that contain just one serving.
+ If you buy a big package, put small amounts into separate bags or containers.
Eat just what is in one of the smaller bags.
+ Slow down when eating so your stomach has time to talk to your brain. If you eat too fast, you may eat too much and get stuffed. Allow your stomach 20 minutes to let your brain know it is full.

Good Job!
Congratulations to Orren McMillon for winning second place in the State 4-H Draw-a-Dairy Billboard Contest. Orren's poster advertising dairy products was selected from among the many posters submitted statewide in the 2008 contest.
