Louisiana Art and Folk Festival The 4-H Children's Tent and Petting Zoo were a big success at this year's Louisiana Art and Folk Festival. Members of the 4-H Fashion, Food and Fitness Club and Junior Leader Club were there to assist the children who visited the 4-H area.
Columbia Elementary Celebrates National 4-H Week 4-H'ers at Columbia elementary participated in numerous activities during the week of October 5-11 which is celebrated nationally to recognize the 4-H program. Students at Columbia elementary participated in "Crazy Hat Day," decorated 4-H posters and made 4-H clovers.
Fashion, Food and Fitness Club Fashion, Food and Fitness Club members Krista Weems and Cutter Montpelier attended the October school board meeting to distribute fruit baskets to Superintendent John Sartin and school board members in appreciation for their support of the Caldwell Parish 4-H program. The Fashion, Food and Fitness Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, November 12 at Columbia Elementary from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. The FFF Christmas Social will be Wednesday, December 10.
The Junior Leader Club will meet at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17 at Johnny's Pizza and on Wednesday, November 19 from 4:20 - 5:20 p.m. at Central elementary. The Junior Leader Christmas Social will be Wednesday, December 17.
4-H T-Shirts 4-H t-shirts are now on sale for $12. Please see a Fashion, Food and Fitness Club member or a Junior Leader to purchase this year's 4-H t-shirt. Orders are due Wednesday, November 12.
Holiday Foods Festival / Photography Contest The annual 4-H Holiday Foods Festival will be held Monday, November 17 in the cafeteria at the Caldwell Parish High School. Registration will be from 9:00 - 9:30 a.m. All 4-H'ers who plan to participate in the event are asked to pre-register by Wednesday, November 12. Entries for the 4-H Photography Contest are due Friday, December 19. Rules and regualtions for both of these contests may be obtained from the 4-H leader at your school, the 4-H office or the Contest page of this website.
Character Corner Everyday we make decisions. We should make decisions in a structured manner. The Character Counts! decision making model is: 1) Clearly identify the situation. 2) Consider all stakeholders. 3) The Six Pillars of Character outrank and override both non-ethical and unethical ones. 4) When two core ethical values conflict, choose the one that will produce the most good for the greatest number of people.
Nutrition Quick Tip Looking for a way to get more fruits and vegetables? Try these quick tips.
- At breakfast, slice a banana and put in your cereal. Drink some 100% orange juice.
- At lunch, try some vegetable soup packed in a thermos to keep it hot.
- For an afternoon snack, slice an apple and dip in peanut butter.
- For dinner, try a fruit salad. All you have to do is cut up some of your favorite fruits and mix them together.
