Welcome back! We are planning a new and exciting year for 4-H.

Summer Highlights

4-H Camp
Over sixty 4th, 5th and 6th graders had a wonderful time during 4-H Camp. They attended fun, educational sessions each morning and participated in numerous activities during the afternoons and evenings. We attended this week long adventure with 4-H'ers from Ouachita, Bienville, Webster, Union and Tensas parishes.

4-H University
Five 4-H'ers from Caldwell took part in the statewide 4-H University held on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Students were able to participate in hands-on educational activities and compete in contests. Congratulations to Dalton Johnson for winning a blue ribbon in the ATV contest and Austin Burns and Kevin Foy for being blue ribbon winners in the Computer Simulation contest.

4-H Day at the Capitol
Over 30 4-H youth and 4-H volunteer leaders attended the annual 4-H Day at the Capitol. 4-H'ers attended a 4-H rally on the Capitol steps, toured the state Capitol and visited with Representative Lelon Kenney and Senator Noble Ellington. Afterwards, the group enjoyed lunch and shopping at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge.

State Ambassador Talk Contest
Six 4-H'ers from Caldwell Parish traveled to Baton Rouge to compete in the State 4-H Ambassador Talk contest. These 4-H'ers included Haley Harris, Leah Thompson, Kelsey Cassels, Leah Dale, Tyler Duchesne and Alicia Foy. Participants were required to present an illustrated talk about a Louisiana commodity.

State 4-H Fashion Board
Congratulations to Jade Pilcher for being selected for the State 4-H Fashion Board. Jade is a member of this board along with 18 other 4-H'ers from around the state. She will help plan many statewide fashion related events such as the Fashion Review at 4-H University and the State 4-H Fashion Board. We are very proud to have Jade serve on this board and represent Caldwell Parish.

Fashion, Food and Fitness Club Trip
Some members of the Fashion, Food and Fitness Club won a reward trip for achieving established FFF club goals during the 2006-2007 club year. They were taken to the Blue Bayou Water Park and Dixie Landing Amusement Park where they spent the day riding the different rides and swimming. Congratulations to Leah Thompson, McKenzie Sanders, Page Jacobson, Tara Taylor, Kirsten Carson, Haley Ellerbe and Krista Weems for winning the 4-H Fashion, Food and Fitness Club Reward Trip.

Horse Shows
Alex Causey, Andy Causey and Lenzy Meredith participated in the District and State level horse shows at the Ike Hamilton in West Monroe. These 4-H'ers received numerous awards with their 4-H horse projects.

State Winners
Congratulations to Austin Burns for being a state winner in the Records Only Contest. Austin won a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the National 4-H Congress.

Congratulations to Bryan Lamb for winning 3rd place in the state 4-H Dairy Billboard contest. His poster competed against numerous posters from all over the state. Bryan won a certificate from the state 4-H office as well as a $25 savings bond.

Caldwell 4-H in 2007-2008
Once you join 4-H, you will be able to attend monthly 4-H Club meetings. The 4-H meetings are fun, educational, informative and promote a variety of life skills. This year the educational focus will be Leadership. In addition to monthly club meetings, 4-H'ers have the opportunity to participate in after-school project clubs, attend a variety of trips including 4-H Camp and 4-H University and compete in 4-H contests on the parish, area and statewide levels.

Fashion, Food and Fitness Club
This after-school club provides hands-on experiences relative to fashion, food and fitness. Members will participate in monthly meetings, field trips and workshops. All 4-H'ers are eligible to join. The cost to be a member of the FFF Club is $10. The first meeting will be held Wednesday, September 26 at the Caldwell Parish Library from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. This will be our sign-up meeting so everyone interested needs to attend.

Junior Leader Club
The Junior Leader Club is open to all 4-H'ers in grades 7-12. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, September 26 from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. at the Caldwell Parish Library. The cost to join the Junior Leader Club is $10. Youth who join are involved in community service activities, fund-raisers and social events.

Attention all CPHS students!
We are searching for students in grades 9-12 to be a member of the Character Education Team. 4-H'ers on this team are responsible for presenting Character Education lessons to students at the Caldwell Parish Pre-school, students in after-school programs and during the 6th grade Health Awareness Day. For more information and to signup, contact Mrs. McKee.

Caldwell Beef Show
The Caldwell 4-H Beef Show will be held on Saturday, September 15 at the Columbia Lions Club Rodeo Arena. Local youth from Caldwell and surrounding parishes will be participating in the show.
