A corn core variety plot is being monitored weekly. Producers will use the results from this plot when making planting decisions for 2009.
Eight forage growers incorporated soil and forage sample results into their farm operations in order to produce higher yields and better quality hay.
Producers and Police Jury members were updated on Caldwell parish crop losses due to two hurricanes that hit Louisiana this year.
School personnel received pesticide training at Caldwell Parish High School and learned how to administer chemicals on school property.
Six Caldwell 4-H'ers participated in the Northeast District and the LSU State Horse shows held in West Monroe. Competition, public speaking, nutrition and tack were the main topics at the district show.
Twenty-five 4-H'ers from six parishes attended the Caldwell Beef and Goat Breeding Show. These 4-H'ers competed in different classes and participated in showmanship during the livestock show.

Two record books were submitted in this year's State 4-H Records Contest. Korey Burns was a blue ribbon winner in this statewide contest.
Holly Martin, Holly Tucker and Hannah Griffing attended this year's Marsh Maneuvers held at the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Grand Chenier where they had hands-on experiences in the wonder, complexity, value and productivity of Louisiana's coastal environment.
Jade Pilcher was selected to serve on the State 4-H Executive Board and State 4-H Fashion Board and attended both summer board meetings held in July.
Fashion, Food and Fitness Club members Nealy McCoy, Meagan McCaa, Kirsten Carson and Presley Hendrix attended the Fashion, Food and Fitness reward trip to Watertown USA in Shreveport. They won this trip after meeting established criteria during the 2007-08 4-H Club year.
Five junior high 4-H'ers attending the 4-H LOST Camp for seventh and eighth grade youth participated in various hands-on activities related to science, engineering and technology.
4-H club enrollment meetings were held in September. All 14 Caldwell parish 4-H clubs learned about 4-H and what to expect for the 2008-09 club year.
Approximately 40 4-H'ers attended the Fashion, Food and Fitness Club enrollment meeting where they learned about the club and what to expect for the 2008-09 club year.
Fifteen 4-H'ers attended the Junior Leader enrollment meeting and learned about the service learning project for the 2008-09 club year.
4-H leaders Patricia Russell, Danyelle Guerrero and Portia Cassels attended the Northeast Area 4-H Leader Forum held in Rayville. 4-H state specialists attending the meeting taught volunteer leaders about the 4-H program and how they can be effective 4-H leaders.
4-H agent Sandra Russell held trainings for newly elected officers to inform them of their roles and responsibilities as 4-H club officers.
Family Nutrition Program
One hundred copies of "Whole Grains for Better Health" were given to the Covenant Worship Center and placed in food boxes distributed to low income families in our community.
Thirty-nine families received information on Smart Choices "Thrifty Food Choices' during the quarterly commodity distribution in July.
Youth participating in the HEROES program planted container gardens and learned about the nutritional benefits of the vegetables they are growing.
Caldwell Council on Aging clients learned about "Healthy Heart: Lower Salt and Fat Meals," "Tips to Get More Calcium in Your Day" and "Fruit and Vegetables."
