Cal-Cam Horse Club

Cal-Cam Horse Club

This is sure to be a great year! We hope to make new friends, build a better partnership with our horses and most of all HAVE FUN!!!

Some of the things we would like to do this year are:
• Horse Safety
• Round Pen Work
• Ground Work (back and yielding hindquarters)
• Mounted Work (knowing where the feet are)
• Showmanship
• Grooming
• Field Trips

Horse Club Enrollment Meeting, October 27th, 2008 at 6:30 at the Calcasieu Parish 4-H Office. Interested in Horses? Then this club is for you. All interested Cameron Parish 4-H members can participate in this club. Cameron Parish leaders, Stacy Verret, Stacy Little, and Sam Williams are planning events for the coming year.

The first club meeting will be in Grand Lake at the Wilkerson Arena on November 17th at 6:30pm. You do not have to have a horse to participate, only a strong interest in horses. Some of the activities the club has planned are field trips to veterinary clinics, breeding farms, trail rides and other horse related activities.

Please complete the attached registration form and bring it to the enrollment meeting on October 27th.

*****November Meeting – The November meeting will be on Monday, November 17th at 6:30pm at the Wilkerson’s arena in Grand Lake. Bring your horse. If you do not have a horse to bring we will have one horse for you to try the exercises with. Please have your horse in the arena at 6:30pm ready to start. The exercise we will cover:  Ground Work Task – Backing – Using body language to back your horse. You will learn to hold your horse’s attention using body language and how to create a “body Bubble” or a space where your horse may not enter without permission.

Note***You will need to bring a halter and lead rope.

Completed and bring to the enrollment meeting on Monday, October 27th, 2008.

Membership and participation is open to all Cameron Parish 4-Hers grades 4 to 12.

Contact the Cameron Parish 4-H Office at 337-905-1318 for more information regarding the club or meetings.

If you have a disability which requires special assistance for your participation in any of our 4-H activities, please contact the 4-H Office so that preparations can be made.

Any adult interested in volunteering with 4-H contests/activities – give the 4-H Office a call and we will add your name on file to assist us with future 4-H events.
