See Them Sprout
Nine Claiborne Parish 4-H club members begin their Junior Gardening Project on May 1.
Jesse Clements, Jacob Ellis, Alexis Morgan, Jordan Clements, Tiera Harris, April Smith, Jordan Branch, Ellery Baugh and Chesly Johnston will plant and grow tomatoes, sweet corn, green beans, and squash in 100 square foot gardens to honor 100 years of 4-H in Louisiana.
After a short gardening program presented by County Agent, Robin Bridges, the nine 4-H youth were given all plants and seeds needed to begin their gardens. They will grow and care for these gardens all summer. The [Image: Garden pic 2]gardens will be judged the first week of August and vegetables produced will be prepared for a potluck Award’s program.
This program is possible thanks to Claiborne Parish Master Gardener Carol Smith, who is the project leader.
We also wish to thank Fred Smith & Son’s Feeds for donating the plants and seeds for this year’s project. Good Luck Junior Gardeners.
Update:
Mr. Bridges and Master Gardener Volunteer Carol Smith will visit and judge the gardens in July. An Awards dinner i[Image: Garden Pic 3]s planned for July 28, with all 4-H participants bringing dishes prepared from vegetables they produced.
The Jr. Gardening program awards are sponsored by the Claiborne Parish 4-H Foundation.
This contest will be an activity each year for any Claiborne 4-H members to enjoy for the summer.
