Spring Contest Day and Area Cookery Contest [Image: Picture of Area Cookery Contest Contestants] [Image: Poultry Dish] [Image: Crawfish Dish] On Saturday, March 21, 2009, DeSoto Parish 4-H held its Spring Contest Day -- which included cookery, sewing, photography and poster contests. Emily Fulton won the Sew with Cotton Contest with her denim garment bag. In the photography contest, contestants were Hunter Fulton, Greg Simmons, Erin Soto and Jessica Soto. Hunter won three categories and Greg won the fourth. Greg also won the dairy poster contest. Finally, in the cookery contest, Erin Soto won both the egg and seafood divisions, Jessica Soto won the pecan category and Greg Simmons won the poultry category. Greg advanced to the area cookery competition held April 15, 2009, at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., where he had two blue ribbon dishes. Also winning a blue ribbon with her crawfish dish at the area contest was 4-H member Hannah Hughes. Congratulations to all these 4-H members for their hard work.
