On Friday, May 1, 2009, six DeSoto youth attended the state 4-H Shooting Sports Competition in Lake Charles, La. In the Junior Division of the Hunting Skills Competition, Hunter Vaughn placed second, Kadden Crawford placed fifth, William Touchton placed seventh, and Peter Ashley placed eighth. In the Senior Division of the Hunting Skills Competition, Allen Touchton placed first, and Joey Bell placed second. These two young men will be attending the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition in Grand Island, Neb., in June to represent Louisiana. Joey Bell also placed second in Muzzleloader and fourth in Archery -- qualifying him to go to the national competition in three events.
