Become a part of the fastest growing youth organization in the area. The EBR 4-H Delta IV Club is open to all youth ages 13-19. This club’s focus is community service-learning, youth issues, and social events. The next Junior Leader Meeting will be October 20, 2009 at 6 p.m. The location will be sent by e-mail to those on our list. Sign up!
National 4-H Week (October 4-10, 2009)
4-H Clubs from East Baton Rouge Parish are encouraged to promote 4-H during the 2009 4-H National 4-H Week.
Here are some ideas for 4-H'ers during National 4-H week:
- Complete a bulletin board
- Create a display to be housed at a local business
- Plan a community service project for your club
- Make 4-H bookmarks
- Bake 4-H cupcakes
Tailgate with the Tigers (November 14, 2009)
Unfortunately, EBRP did not get an opportunity to purchase 4-H football tickets this year. However, there will be a terrific tailgate at Parker Coliseum at 1 p.m. with over 75 prizes only for 4-H members and their families. Further, the LSU cheerleaders, mascot, and Tiger Girls will be there entertaining the group. Jambalaya, pizza, and ice cream will be served. The LSU versus La Tech game will be shown on a large screen TV.
4-H Fall Fest
East Baton Rouge Parish is having a pumpkin carving/decorating contest on October 31, 2009 from 10 a.m.-noon. This is an activity filled with fun for the entire family. We are asking youth to come prepared to carve or decorate a pumpkin using a 4-H theme. Please come with pumpkin and supplies for the carving or painting. Bring a parent to help you! The contest will be held at the EBR 4-H Activity Center located at 8300 Comite Acres Dr. in Baker.
4-H Pizza Day

“Catch-phrase for Camp” Contest
Announcing the eighth annual “Catch-phrase for Camp” Contest! What’s a good theme for 4-H Summer Camp? Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan -- in 7 words or less. To enable the campers to have more of a choice in the design of their t-shirts, illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest. The contest is open to all 4-H Club members. The winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy”, capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker. The slogan will be used on all publicity for camp and on the camp T-shirt. The winner will receive CASH! Think fast – the deadline to summit entries is Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Send entries to the EBR 4-H Office.

Mrs. Beverly Retiring
Join us in congratulating Mrs. Beverly Bailey for her 31 1/2 years of service with LSU AgCenter as an Extension Agent. She worked in Bienville Parish 1978-1979, East Feliciana Parish 1979-2007, and East Baton Rouge Parish 2007-2009. She will be retiring at the end of October.
Shooting Sports Club held Safety Training For New Members
EBR 4-H Shooting Sports Club kicked off the 2009-2010 year with a shooting training for first-time members on Sunday, September 27, at the 4-H Activity Center in Baker.
Those participating were:
- Air Rifle: Thomas and Omer Wolff, Tasha Garrett, Skylark Bueche, Tanner Colson
- Shotgun: Matthew [Image: 4-H member practing rifle shooting];and Thomas Baggett, Reese Garrett, Jacob Dammann-Tamke
- Archery: Caleb Barber, Jordan Miller, Morgan Mozzarella
Returning members that participated in shooting practice or learning a new discipline were:
- Shot gun: Garrett Wood, Michael Yarbough, Andrew Matthews, Dylan Miller, Trey Bourgeois, Garrett Venable, Odom Stagg, Michael Martinez
- .22 Rifle: Reese Garrett, Cameran Petty
- .22 Pistol: Jarrett Logan, Jared Brown, Garrett Venable; Archery: Wesley Chandler
Certified Instructors conducting the training were: Joey Brown, Chris Martin, Andy Blanchard, and Greg Chandler, assisted by Andrew Brown, Tyler Canal and Mike Canal . Shooting Sports Coordinators: Sandy Brown, Michelle Venable, and Melissa Wood registered the participants and answered questions.
