Calling all 4-H'ers

The best way to discover what 4-H has to offer is to get involved.

Start off this new 4-H year by running for office. You can be elected as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Educational Chair, Reporter, Community Service Chair, or Parliamentarian of your club. Join a project club. Project clubs provide lots of great opportunities to make new friends from around the parish and have a blast doing what interests you. Keep up with your Clover Talk newsletters each month because they will have valuable information for upcoming parish-wide activities.

Remember the 4-H Slogan…….

“Learn By Doing,” so Let’s Get Involved!

How to become a 4-H Member Checklist

  • Complete a 4-H Enrollment Card.
  • Select one Project Book
  • Pay Dues by October meeting.
  • Read your Clover Talk newsletter and take it home.
  • Sign up for events, project club.
  • Run for Office or sign up for a committee.
  • Attend all 4-H club meetings.

4-H UPDATE! 4-H UPDATE! 4-H UPDATE!

Last spring we announced that our parish 4-H dues would be increasing from $1.00 to $2.00 per year. Unfortunately, EBR 4-H annual dues will be $5.00 per year beginning with the 2009-2010 school year. This increase is necessary due to a $2.00 per year increase in Louisiana 4-H dues and the increasing cost of purchasing 4-H books.

4-H Happenings

4-H Night at Tiger Stadium

Saturday November 14

The LSU Athletic Department is providing 4-H members with a great opportunity to participate in the LSU homecoming football game at the reduced price of $25. These tickets can be purchased by 4-H members, their families, and volunteers. Additionally, a large tailgate party is planned for all who attend. Food and many door prizes will be provided and all activities will be at Parker Coliseum. The LSU cheerleaders, Tiger Girls, LSU Golden Girls and Mike the Tiger are scheduled to make a special appearance. The game will be November 14th when LSU plays Louisiana Tech, beginning at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. To order tickets, make check or money order payable to EBR 4-H Foundation with memo stating LSU football tickets. Send to EBR 4-H Office, 805 St. Louis, Baton Rouge, LA, 70802. We must receive your money by September 20th.

Shooting Sports Round-Up

The Shooting Sports Project Club will have the first MANDATORY (new discipline) training on Sunday, September 27, from 1:00-6:00pm at the 4-H property in Baker, LA. This training is for new 4-H'ers wanting to participate in shotgun, air rifle, air pistol, .22 pistol, .22 rifle (must complete one year of air rifle first) and archery. Hunting or muzzleloader disciplines may also get added if enough people are interested.

This training day is also for past participants who would like to be trained in a new discipline. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Sandy Martin. See attached flyer for more details.

National 4-H Week

National 4-H Week is October 3rd-8th. You should plan activities that week to promote 4-H. One activity your club may participate in is the East Baton Rouge parish wide 4-H bulletin board event. Create a 4-H bulletin board to remain displayed throughout the week.

October 8th is Louisiana 4-H Pizza Day

Get a Pizza! Give to 4-H! Papa John Pizza is teaming up with Louisiana 4-H to host pizza day across the state. Present your coupon, and 4-H will receive 20% of any purchase! To download the Louisiana 4-H pizza day flyer and coupons visit our Web site.

“Catch-Phrase for Camp" Contest

4-H Camp Grant Walker Needs Your Ideas!

Announcing the 8th annual “Catch-phrase for Camp” Contest! What’s a good theme for 4-H Summer Camp? Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan - in 7 words or less. To enable the campers to have more of a choice in the design of their t-shirts, illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest. The contest is open to all 4-H club members. The winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy," capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker. The slogan will be used on all publicity for camp and on the camp T-shirt. The winner will receive a monetary award from the LAE 4-HA (La. Assoc. of Extension 4-H Agents). Think fast – the deadline is October 23rd! Submissions must also include the following: full name and age of person submitting the slogan, parish/4-H club, complete mailing address and telephone number.

Please send all entries to EBR 4-H Office, 805 St. Louis Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
