Exhibitor/Parent Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the exhibitor and/or parent to understand and follow the State Fair of Louisiana and the LSU Livestock Show rules. If there are questions on the understanding of rules, call the 4-H Office and we will be glad to assist you. If you are new to the livestock program, we will meet with you to review rules and guidelines.

The LSU Livestock Show Catalogs can be obtained on the LSU AgCenter Web site at www.lsuagcenter.com/en/our-offices/departments/Livestock_Show_Office/State_Livestock_Show/ (2010 catalog is not presently available). If you do not have access to the internet and would like a copy, call the 4-H Office and we will assist you in obtaining a copy.

Junior exhibitors must have animals in their possession (housed at exhibitors home or families property, backyard) and under personal daily care (and must not be in possession of a custom fitter) after possession dates. The possession requirement covers the period from the date of possession to the completion of the state show.
If any exhibitor does not have animal(s) in his/her possession based on above rule, the exhibitor must turn in a “Project Possession/Hardship Form” before possession dates. If any exhibitor is to lose possession for any reason during the possession period, a Project Possession/Hardship Form is to be turned in to the 4-H Office before the situation occurs. If an exhibitor does not follow these guidelines, it could cause an exhibitor to lose eligibility to participate in the LSU AgCenter Livestock Show Program for one (1) year.
Validation Procedure for 2010 LSU AgCenter State Livestock Show
The validation of Beef Commercial Heifers, Market Lambs, Commercial Ewes, Market Goats, Commercial Does and Market Swine for the 2010 LSU AgCenter State Livestock Show will be conducted at the parish level.
- All animals will be tagged and DNA samples collected.
- Animals validated for the 2009 The State Fair of Louisiana that intends to be exhibited at the 2010 LSU State Show (Parish, District and State) are required to attend this validation.
- Registered (papered) breeding animals do not have to be validated.
Evangeline Parish validation will be conducted at the Chauncey Pitre Memorial Barn on the following dates:
- Commercial heifer, market lambs, Commercial ewes, market goats and commercial does: November 5, 2009 – 2:30-6:30 p.m.
- Market Swine: December 3, 2009 - 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Hardship Statement
District and/or State Show manager must be notified with in approximately 48 hours of the end of validation if an unforeseen emergency or act of God has prohibited exhibitor from attending validation. After contacting District and/or State Show Manager hardship forms must be immediately filed with supporting material and stating hardship. The deadline for making notifications and filing hardship are November 9, 2009, 4:30 p.m. for Beef, Sheep, and Goat species and December 7, 2009, 4:30 p.m. for Market Hogs. These hardships will be evaluated on a case by case basis by parish agent, district show manager, and state show manager. Only cases where it is determined to have been unavoidable will the exhibitor be allowed to validate. This decision will be final and not subject to appeal.

Junior Exhibitor Entry Form and Passes Needed
- Market Animal Summary (specie, breed, state fair tag #, La. Bred tag #, sex)
- Breeding Animal Summary (breed, sex, name, d.o.b., reg. #, sire, dam info) indicate Junior and/or Open entry
Open Exhibitor Entry Form:
- parent & exhibitor sign forms
- copy of registration papers; or documentation from Association indicating register ability
- personal check to cover all fees made payable to: Evangeline 4-H Livestock. Return to 4-H Office by August 25, 2009
4-H & FFA Exhibitor Wrist Bands
- 1 pass per junior exhibitor to be worn at all times
- parents and leaders - $10.00 each to be worn at all times
- vehicle parking pass - $10.00
Registration Papers:
- copy needed with entries
- exhibitors name only as owner of animal
- original papers needed at fair on show day or written documentation from Association on register ability.
Educational Award Trips to Louisville, Kentucky and Memphis, Tennessee
Selection for the Livestock Educational Award Trip to Louisville, KY for sheep and beef will be done at the State Fair. Selection for the Dairy Award Trip to Memphis, TN will be in Baton Rouge on a different date.

Evangeline Parish Beef Classic Beef Breeding & Commercial Heifer Show
The Evangeline Parish Cattleman’s Association will sponsor a Beef Breeding, Steer and Commercial Heifer Show November 22, 2009, at the Chauncey Pitre Memorial Building in Ville Platte. Entry fee is $15 per animal by November 6, 2009 or $25 per animal after November 6, 2009. Showmanship fee is $5 paid at entry to ring.

Southwest Louisiana Goat Camp
An educational program for goat exhibitors will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at the Burton Coliseum Barn in Lake Charles.The Camp will cost $15.per child which includes lunch and a T-shirt. To attend, complete registration form and mail to:LSU AgCenter, Calcasieu Parish, 7101 Gulf Highway, Lake Charles, La. 70607 by August 21, 2009.
