Franklin Parish 4-H members have been busy this year participating in some of the many activities offered by the LSU AgCenter. Members participated in the Area Commodity Cookery Contest and the Northeast Louisiana District Livestock Show.
Nine students from Franklin Parish participated in the Area Commodity Cookery Contest held at the Delhi Civic Center on January 30, 2008. Contestants entered dishes that contain ingredients that are grown or raised in this area.
The results of the contest were: Cassidy Ritchie, Franklin Academy, received Best of Show Award. Cassidy also received 1st place Egg Division. Amanda Kincaid, Franklin Academy, received 1st place Rice Division and 2nd place Pecan Division. Samantha Acton, Home school, received Blue Ribbon Sweet Potato Division. Sarah Ford, Fort Necessity, received 3rd place Chicken Division. Anna Grace Ellerbe, Gilbert, received Blue Ribbon Catfish Division. Jessica Dunaway, Gilbert, received Blue Ribbon Beef Division. Erin Young, Franklin Pari[Image: Cookery Group]sh High School, received 2nd place Corn Division.
Five students from Franklin Parish walked away with awards from the Northeast Louisiana District Livestock Show held on January 31-February 2, 2008.
Those winning awards were: Kristen Berry, Franklin Parish High School, Grand Champion Broilers and Reserve Grand Champion Broilers. Paul Washam, Franklin Parish High School, Champion Brahman Bull and Beef Class Winner 15 & Up, Showmanship Grand Champion, Beef Showmanship, Senior Beef Premier Exhibitor. Jake Monnin, Fort Necessity, Rabbit[Image: NE LA District Livestock Show] Class Winner 12-14 Showmanship, Grand Champion Rabbit Showmanship. Ashley Donald, Gilbert, Poultry Winner 9-11 Showmanship, Reserve Grand Champion Poultry Showmanship. Katie Taylor, Fort Necessity, Junior Beef Premier Exhibitor.
