Nutrition and Health
The mission of the Nutrition and Health project of Family and Consumer Sciences is to improve the health and nutrition of people in Louisiana. We do this by providing various health and nutrition programs to the citizens. We participate in national programs that address the needs of children, pregnant women, families and the elderly.
Family Nutrition Program
FNP Nutrition Educators teach basic nutrition, food safety, meal management, thrifty shopping and food resource management to food stamp recipients.
DEAR: Diabetes Education Awareness Recommendations
Diabetes Education Awareness Recommendations (DEAR) is a program that addresses the increasing numbers of individuals with diabetes.
Portions: A Healthy Weight Program
Portions teaches individuals healthy, lifelong nutrition and exercise habits based on the Food Guide Pyramid.

The LSU Ag Center provides various publications on food safety and food preservation.
