Nutrition and Health
The mission of the Nutrition and Health project of Family and Consumer Sciences is to improve the health of families. LSU AgCenter educators provide various health and nutrition programs that teach people to make wise food and lifestyle choices. These programs address the needs of children, pregnant women, families and the elderly.
Family Nutrition Program
The Family Nutrition Program provides educational programs that increase the likelihood of all Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients making healthy food choices, within a limited budget, that are consistent with the most recent dietary advice reflected in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid.
Chronic Disease Prevention
Diabetes News: Nutrition Education Works is a program that addresses the increasing numbers of individuals with diabetes.
Smart Portions: - The LSU AgCenter’s Smart Choices Healthy Weight Program focuses on lifestyle changes to achieve and maintain a healthy weight. A password is required to view this section.

Smart Choices for Adults
Smart Bodies - Smart Bodies is an educational program aimed at preventing childhood obesity. A joint initiative of the LSU AgCenter and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, Smart Bodies is taught in schools across the state and helps children learn how to build strong bodies and develop active minds.
