4-H Winter Food Fesitval

[Image: Food Festival Banner]The Grant Parish 4-H Winter Food Festival will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the Colfax Bank Meeting Room. Registration is at 4:30 p.m. and judging will begin at 5 p.m.

All dishes must be prepared by the 4-H member AT HOME. Because food safety is a concern, all dishes should be prepared/cooked and then chilled in the refrigerator. The dish must be transported to the contest ON ICE IN AN ICE CHEST. DISHES NOT CHILLED AND TRANSPORTED IN THIS MANNER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Contestants must check in at the registration table prior to setting up their dishes.

Items needed for the contest:
** One (1) copy of the recipe written on an 8½ -by-11-inch sheet of paper. ON THE BACK, PLACE YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, AGE AND SCHOOL.
** Fully cooked dish, chilled in the refrigerator and transported to contest on ice in ice chest.

1. Take a short written test on basic nutrition facts.

2. Awards will be presented to participants at the end of the contest. Champions will represent our parish at the District Contest held in April.

Categories (will be divided into junior and senior divisions)

1. Ground Beef Cookery – Must use at least 1 pound of ground beef in the recipe; may be low-calorie, quick-and-easy, or one-dish meal.

2. Pecan Cookery – Must use at least 1 cup of pecans in the recipe. May be an appetizer/salad or dessert.

3. Sweet Potato Cookery – Must use at least 1 cup of sweet potatoes; they may be fresh, canned or frozen. May be a dessert dish or an “other” dish.
