Prescribe Burn Plan Worksheet

A prescribe burn plan should be completed by each grower before the harvest season. One plan can be completed for an entire farm or for an individual field. All information needed to plan and conduct a burn and for comments concerning the burn is contained in the form. The plan was devised to help farm operators control the burning of sugarcane to lessen their impact on public health and welfare, which includes pre-burn considerations and weather information.

2010 Iberia 4-H Contest Day

The 2010 4-H Contest Day will be held Saturday, February 6th at Iberia Middle School. Four-H'ers will be able to participate in over 25 different speaking contests. Various educational workshops will also be held for elementary students. Lastly, the Fashion Contest will be held this day.

2009 Journey into Jobs

Journey Into Jobs will be held December 3rd at Sugarland Elementary. This is an annual event where 4-H'ers interview people representing various jobs/careers, as well as being interviewed by judges.

2009 Fall Fun Day [Image: 1]
The annual Iberia Parish 4-H Fall Fun Day will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Iberia Middle School. During the event, 4-H'ers can participate in the following: Beef, Rice and Seafood Cookery Contest; Bicycle Rodeo; and Steps to Fitness Expo.

The Iberia Parish 4-H Clover Chatter newsletters provide information to parish 4-H members and contain activities, events and deadlines occurring monthly.
2009 4-H Camp [Image: 1]
4-H Camp is the statewide event that is both an educational and fun learning experience. The event is held in Pollock, Louisiana, on the LSU AgCenter's 80-acre campsite at the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center.
2009 Challenge Camp [Image: 1]
Seventh-grade 4-H members from around Iberia Parish recently were given the opportunity to experience 4-H Challenge Camp. 4-H Challenge Camp allows youth to experience various challenges from a hands-on approach.
2009 National 4-H WHEP Competition [Image: 1]
A Louisiana 4-H team placed fifth overall in the National 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program. Team members were Micah Patout and Ridge Miguez of Iberia Parish, Jeremy Dixon of West Feliciana Parish and Deanna Jason of West Baton Rouge Parish. Sixteen teams from across the United States attended the competition, in which participants were introduced to a tract of land and asked to identify the practices they would use to manage wildlife.
2009 Junior Wildlife Tour [Image: 1]
Twelve 4-H members in grades 4-8 were selected statewide for the 2009 Junior Wildlife Tour. 4-H record books on Discovering 4-H, wildlife, environment, insects and aquaculture were submitted as part of the competition. The trip was held in August of 2009 at the LUMCON (Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium) facility in Fouchon. Iberia 4-H'ers Florencia Scaglia, Andrew Picheloup and Brennan Trahan were selected to attend along with LSU AgCenter 4-H agent Monique Sanchez.

Area producers and 4-H members participated in the Sugarcane Exhibits and Judging Contest during the Annual Sugarcane Festival, September 25-26, 2009.
2009 Iberia Parish Sugar Cookery Results [Image: Cookie plate]
More than 350 types of sweets were entered into the Iberia 4-H Sugar Cookery Contest on September 25, 2009, at the Cyr-Gates Community Center in New Iberia. 4-H'ers from across the parish competed in this annual contest sponsored by the Louisiana Sugarcane Festival Association and Cajun Sugar Co-Op. Results are listed by division and then alphabetically by club.

The October 6, 2009, edition of the Louisiana Food and Fiber Monitor. This newsletter describes the current production and marketing environments facing the agriculture and forestry sectors. "Producers continue to be busy with harvest. For somecrops, producers are putting the finishing touches onthe 2009 year while for others; harvest has juststarted or is in the heart of the harvest season."

The State 4-H Horse Show was held July 7-11, 2009, at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monore. 4-H'ers from throughout the state competed in this event. Results from Iberia Parish included here.
